Peru, Nebraska- Students from high schools in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas will compete for scholarships and awards at Peru State College’s 43rd Annual High School Business Contest on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

The day will begin with a general assembly at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony, which is open to the public, will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the College Theatre.

Professional Studies Instructor and Contest Director Ms. Lisa Parriott said, “It is an honor to be selected as the new contest director. This event has been an enormous success under previous director Dr. Judy Grotrian and I strive to continue her traditions of excellence in the competition.”

Competitions will be held in 15 different disciplines, including accounting, advanced accounting, business communications, business law, business math, computer concepts, economics, entrepreneurship, introduction to business, job interview, keyboarding objective, keyboarding skills, marketing, personal finance and Web page design. 

First-place winners in each of the 15 categories will receive $500 tuition scholarships (for on-campus classes) to Peru State. Medals will also be awarded to first through fifth-place winners in each contest.

Parriott continued, “This year’s event will include 27 high schools and nearly 400 high school students. Over 100 Peru State College students have volunteered to assist on event day. The support of the campus community and the high schools is what makes this event so successful.”
 
Participating high schools include Auburn, Bellevue East, Concordia, Deshler, Elmwood-Murdock, Falls City High, Freeman Public, Gretna High, Heartland Community, HTRS, Johnson County Central, Johnson-Brock, Lincoln East, Lincoln High, Lincoln North Star, Lincoln Northeast, Lincoln Southeast, Lincoln Southwest, Nebraska City High, Palmyra, Sabetha, Sidney, Sterling Public Schools, Syracuse, Tarkio High, Tri County and Wymore Southern.
