Peru, Nebraska- Thursday morning, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts signed LB 958 which contained provisions
to extend state college bonding authority for an additional ten years. The Nebraska
State College System had previously approved the Peru State College theatre and event
space renovation pending the Governor’s signature.
Dr. Dan Hanson, president of Peru State College writes, “Identifying a funding path
for the theatre and event space renovation is good news for the college and region.
The renovations represent better education opportunities and maintaining the cultural
legacy of Peru State College for 150 more years.
Hanson continues, “The funding strategy included in the bill is not a direct appropriation.
Rather, it is an extension of the NSCS bonding program. The college and foundation
will be required to provide some funding for the project and the state will provide
funds to service the bonds on an annual basis. The renovation of the theatre/event
center is anticipated to begin about a year from now.”
“Continuing that partnership with the legislature and foundation to maintain and improve
facilities is a great next step for Peru State College. Working together allows us
to offer more to our students, alumni and communities every year.”
Todd Simpson, chief executive officer of the Peru State College Foundation, writes,
“The Foundation is pleased to engage with funding the theatre and event space project.
The improved facility will allow for larger contests and performances and it will
attract more contests and other regional opportunities to southeast Nebraska and the
Peru State campus.”
“More space will allow faculty to plan additional performances, while concerts, speakers
and even comedians will also be able to utilize the facility to better inform, persuade
and entertain our students, alumni and all of southeast Nebraska.”
