Peru, Nebraska- Peru State College Professor of English, Dr. Bill Clemente, will present children’s
programs on birds and poetry throughout April and early May.
Clemente said, “I love every opportunity to share my enthusiasm for birds and poetry.
I particularly enjoy helping children find the words to describe the beauty of nature
and birds in flight."
On April 13 and 14, Clemente will present Feathers and Verses for the Nebraska Humanities Speakers Bureau at the Platte River Expo in Mahoney
Park. The program introduces youngsters to birds and includes writing short poems
or narratives, learning bird names and songs and coloring bird images. Clemente will
speak to fourth and fifth grade classes as organized by the Nebraska Parks and Game
Commission.
On April 17, Clemente will be a featured presenter at Words 4 Birds, a program sponsored by the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center and Nebraska State
Poet Twyla Hansen. Clemente will be working with children from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. Ray Scheele will hold a workshop for adults at the same time. After the workshops,
a “bring-your-own” picnic will be held on the prairie, followed by readings by Nebraska
poets Clemente, Hansen, Scheele and Amy Plettner. This National Poetry Month event
is free and open to the public.
On April 29 and 30, Clemente will also present Feathers and Verses as part of Nebraska City’s Arbor Day events. The program introduces youngsters to
birds and includes writing short poems or narratives, learning bird names and songs
and coloring bird images. The program will be held at the Keeping Room from 3:00 to
4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
On April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Clemente will share his enthusiasm for birds
with both children and adults at the annual Spring Festival at Indian Cave State Park
Clemente has presented at the Spring Festival for the past ten years. The event is
free and open to the public.
On May 5 and 6, Clemente will again present Feathers and Verses for the Nebraska Humanities Speakers Bureau at the Kearney Expo. The program introduces
youngsters to birds and includes writing short poems or narratives, learning bird
names and songs and coloring bird images. Clemente will speak to fourth and fifth
grade classes as organized by the Nebraska Parks and Game Commission.
