Peru, Nebraska- Dr. Jacob Bartlett, assistant professor of music at Peru State College, is a quarter-finalist
for the Music Educator GRAMMY Award presented by GRAMMY in the Schools, The Recording
Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. Bartlett is one of only three quarter-finalists
in Nebraska.
GRAMMY in the Schools released an announcement explaining the process so far, “A total
of 290 music teachers from 264 cities across 41 states have been announced as quarter-finalists
for the Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.
In total, more than 3,300 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.”
Dr. Jacob Bartlett writes, “It is an absolute honor and privilege to share the love
and gift of music with our campus community on a daily basis. It's never about the
trophy, but knowing I've been able to touch at least one person's life in a positive
way through music education is the greatest award I could ever receive.”
The move from 3,300 nominations to 291 quarter-finalists is a 91% reduction. A list
of 15 semifinalists will be announced in September 2016 followed later by a list of
ten finalists. One winner will be chosen to attend the 59th annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony a range of GRAMMY Foundation events.
The GRAMMY Foundation was established in 1988 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation
and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — from the
artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs
of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation accomplishes this mission
through programs like GRAMMY in the Schools. The Foundation works in partnership year-round
with the Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as
the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our
