Dr. Dan Holtz, Professor of English at Peru State College, will receive the Addison
E. Sheldon Memorial Award from the Nebraska State Historical Society in a ceremony
on Oct. 16, in Lincoln. The award recognizes an individual or organization for outstanding
contributions to the preservation and interpretation of Nebraska History. Dr. Holtz
is being recognized for his contributions to the preservation and interpretation of
Nebraska history through teaching, public programs, scholarship, and service on the
Nebraska State Historical Society Board of Trustees and the Nebraska 150 Foundation.
Dr. Holtz has served as the First Vice President for the Nebraska State Historical
Society Board of Trustees and has made more than 200 presentations as part of the
Nebraska Humanities Council Speaker's Series. In 2002, he released, Welcome to Historic Nebraska!, a musical recording which features 18 traditional and original folk songs, plus a
historical narrative, to tell the story of Nebraska’s early days. In 2000, Dr. Holtz
received the Nebraska State College System Teaching Excellence Award.
