Peru State Choirs thrive on the collaborative nature of ensemble music-making. We believe that anyone can sing, and we make it our mission to help students realize their innermost potential in a safe, welcoming, familial environment.
Our areas of focus include 20th and 21st Century concert music of all genres and styles. Additional curricular focuses include choral music from Antiquity (chant) through the Romantic Period. Our goal with every new piece of music is to achieve the highest level of artistry possible.
Peru State Choirs are open to students of all musical backgrounds and experience levels. We encourage you to join with your peers, faculty and staff to nurture your passion for music.
We offer three distinct ensembles, and encourage participation in any and all groups (it is possible to sing in multiple choirs each semester):
College Choir (MUSC 102 – Monday/Wednesday, 12:30 – 1:45 p.m.)
The College Choir is a mixed-gender choir in the American concert choir tradition which specializes in 20th and 21st Century choral repertoire (that music composed for ensembles of this size and nature), and explores musical offerings from the United States and around the world. The College Choir is open to men without audition, and is open to women with an audition requirement to ensure a balanced ensemble (based on Tenor/Bass membership).
Women’s Choir (MUSC 110 – Tuesday/Thursday, 12:30 – 1:45 p.m.)
This treble concert choir is made up of passionate women who love to explore treble music’s close harmonies and vibrant resonance. The fun atmosphere in rehearsals encourages a sense of trust and allows us to explore vulnerability to music and text, which translates to expressivity in our performances. The Women’s Choir is open to all women without audition.
Prestige (MUSC 104 – Mondays, 6:00 – 9:15 p.m.)
Prestige is a contemporary vocal ensemble specializing in a variety of musical styles, including vocal jazz, pop, musical theatre, and a cappella. The choir hosts the Annual Show Choir Festival, performs a Spring Showcase, and participates in the annual “Magic of Christmas” concert. Prestige also performs around the community and region for various events. Prestige is open to all students via audition. Interested students may contact Dr. Jake Bartlett, Associate Professor of Music.
