Library Student Aide

Start Date

The Library seeks students (federal work study and non-federal work study) to assist the library staff with daily operations and projects.

Work dates are August 22, 2022, through May 4, 2023.

Submit application by July 18, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.

Anticipated weekly work hours depend on award amount and class schedule but may be 4-10 hours per week.


Pay will be $9.00 per hour.

Available shift times:
Monday-Wednesday 7:30 a.m. -11:00 p.m.
Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
Sunday 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

  • Full-time Peru State College student
  • Professional, courteous, and reliable
  • Previous work experience is desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers with frequent interruptions
  • Work independently and unsupervised, make decisions, and exhibit good judgement
  • Accurate keyboard entry, word processing, typing, and filing skills required; attentive to details
  • Successful background check required


  • Assist patrons with library research, with use of the collection, and with accessing appropriate materials and resources.
  • Perform advanced and routine circulation desk duties, stacks maintenance, new materials processing in all formats, and discards processing.
  • Maintain equipment and assist patrons with copiers, printers, scanners, laptops, and computers.
  • Assume the responsibility for the Library in the absence of full-time staff members and/or during hours of operation on weekends and at nights; this includes the opening and closing of the Library.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  Job Performance Evaluation: A job performance evaluation will be completed at the end of each semester. It will evaluate job knowledge, quality of work, initiative and dependability. REGULATIONS ON WORK STUDY JOBS Students are not permitted to work in FWS positions during scheduled class times.  Exceptions are permitted if an individual class is cancelled, if the instructor has excused the student from attending for a particular day, and if the student is receiving credit for employment in an internship, externship, or community work study experience. Any such exemptions must be documented.
