Giving Day Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Peru State’s Giving Day?

#BobcatsGivingDay 2023 is the college’s third 24-hour giving campaign (one year missed due to the pandemic), which aims to inspire Bobcats to come together, show their pride in their alma mater, and provide essential funding to support current and future students. The goal is to honor Peru State’s 156th year with 156 donors throughout the 24-hour period and 156 current students volunteering more than 156 hours on campus and in the community.

Q. What volunteer activities are current students doing during Giving Day?

More than 156 current Peru State students are planning to volunteer on campus and in the surrounding communities to celebrate Giving Day. Some examples of volunteer activities from previous Giving Days include:

Campus Activities Board (CAB) – Held a "bowling for boobs" event that raised money for breast cancer awareness

SAIL – Handed out birthday cookies for the 154th birthday and assisted at the Antequarium in Brownville

Science Club – Volunteered to scare people at the Indian Cave Haunted House hayrack rides

PRIDE - Picked up trash around the Centennial Complex

Collegiate FBLA (formerly PBL) – Assisted at the Antequarium in Brownville

Math Club – Cleaned the Peru State wellness trail to prepare for the Residence Hall Association's haunted trail

Black Student Union – Picked up trash around the campus

AIM – Collecting food items from churches and businesses to donate to Bobcat Bites

Peru Association of Student Athletes (PASA) – athletic teams collected over 368 personal care and/or winter-related items to donate to Project Response and SENCA

Peru Student Education Association (PSEA) – Read books to the children in the Peru State Day Care

National Student Leadership Society (NSLS) – Trick or treated around the community to collect items for the Bobcat Bites food pantry

Peru State Catholic Union and Bobcat Baseball Team – Planted trees around the community

Q. Is there a minimum or maximum donation I can make on Giving Day

No – gifts of all sizes are encouraged. Our goal focuses on participation because many gifts come together to support the transformational Peru State experience for every student.

Q. Why does Peru State care about my participation?

When Bobcats join together they make a mighty roar! This collaborative day of giving amplifies the impact donors can make for Peru State to provide valuable dollars for scholarships, academic and athletic excellence and programs that strengthen the college's mission of engagement.

Q. Can I participate in #BobcatsGivingDay 2023 if I did not graduate from Peru State?

Yes! Students, parents, faculty/staff, and friends are encouraged to support the college on Giving Day.

Q. Where does my Giving Day gift go?

Supporters are encouraged to give to one of the four options available through the Giving Day website – Project ROAR, Greatest Needs, Bobcat SOS (Serving our Students), and What You Love.

Project ROAR – Project ROAR is the College’s capital campaign which, when completed, will more than double the amount of indoor recreational and athletic space on campus. In addition, the campaign is based on the idea that supporting students’ physical and mental health and well-being is vitally important.

Greatest Needs – The College’s Foundation supports faculty, staff, and departments, as well as performances, events, and activities which support a vibrant campus culture.

Bobcat SOS (Serving Our Students) – Bobcat S.O.S. will provide Peru State students with small grants to help with temporary financial hardships that may have a long-term, negative impact on their education. Students requesting these grants must demonstrate their need. Every donation to this fund will have an immediate impact on our students’ lives and help them to continue their education at Peru State.

What You Love – Donors will have an opportunity to designate their gift to any area on campus that means the most to them.

Q. Will my Giving Day gift – if made in advance of October 24-25, 2023– help reach the goal of 156 donors?

Yes! Gifts made in advance of Giving Day through peru.edu/foundation/givingday (and in response to Giving Day mailings) will be displayed on the leaderboard when it goes live at noon on October 17, 2023.

Q. Is my Peru State Giving Day contribution tax deductible?

Yes, your gift is entirely tax deductible. You will receive an email confirmation that may serve as your receipt for tax purposes.

Q. What if I already made a gift to Peru State this year?

Thank you for supporting Peru State! We appreciate your commitment and encourage you to make an additional gift of any size on October 24-25. We also need your help to promote Giving Day to others by sharing why you give on social media using #BobcatsGivingDay and #Bobcats4Life. We have created sample email and social media posts to help you do this more easily, which are located in the Ambassador Toolkit on the site.

Q. Can I help promote Giving Day?

Please do! We encourage you to share the images and messages that are located in the Ambassador Toolkit. Send an email to classmates, post on your Facebook page, tweet – whatever you can think of to help promote this 24-hour period of giving to Peru State.

Q. Can I use my employer's matching gifts funds?

Yes! We strongly encourage you to take advantage of your employer's generosity to enhance the impact of your support at Peru State. Contact your HR office to see if your company offers this benefit.

Q: My friends and family can’t afford to give a lot, is that okay?

Yes! Even a gift of $5 will make a difference. When approaches foundations and corporations for larger grants, they look at community support when making funding decisions. One of the ways to demonstrate community support is through a growing donor base. So, every small gift is important in that it can be a critical part of helping to secure a large gift.

Q: Are the donations secure?

Yes! Our donation forms are all PCI-Level one compliant which is the highest level of transaction security available.

Q: What types of gifts are accepted during #BobcatsGivingDay?

Gifts through credit card or PayPal using your personal giving form are the easiest and get immediately counted towards your fundraising goal. However, if someone wishes to make a gift via check, please send it to Peru State College Foundation, PO Box 10, Peru, NE 68421 and it will get counted towards your fundraising goal.
