Dr. Chism joined Peru State College in 2019 as an Assistant Professor of Education.
He has been the Dean for the School of Education since 2020. Dr. Chism received his
bachelor's, master's, and a doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
In 2015, Dr. Chism received the Distinguished Alumni Award in Teacher Education from
his alma mater. His doctoral degree emphasis was Educational Administration and Supervision
K-12, with a Superintendent Endorsement K-12.
Dr. Chism has been in the education world for over 20 years. He began his profession
as a 5th grade teacher in the Omaha Public Schools. After spending seven years in
the classroom, Dr. Chism became a Lead Teacher for a year and then Principal in the
Bellevue Public Schools. His professional journey led him back to the Omaha Public
Schools as the Executive Director of School of Support, supervising 26 building principals.
Dr. Chism serves the field of Education on the state level as a member of the Educational
Leadership Learning Council (ELLC) and Equity Task Force for the Nebraska Department
of Education. He has also supported the field through publication with the Association
for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
Dr. Chism resides in the Bellevue area with his wife Kanyon, and children, Tia, Braylon,
and Zevin.
