Why did Peru State switch to an online bookstore?

Peru State College is dedicated to significantly lowering textbook costs, improving the efficiency of the textbook adoption process and empowering faculty to select affordable, high-quality course materials. This, in combination with student predilection to use online bookstores, led Peru State to partner with Akademos. Using the marketplace features, Peru State students may save as much as 60% over traditional bookstores.

What is the Akademos virtual bookstore and marketplace?

Instead of purchasing textbooks at a brick-and-mortar store on campus, students will be directed to a virtual bookstore website where all required textbooks are organized by course and department, so students may easily find, select, and purchase their books online while saving money in the process.

Is there a physical location to purchase and/or sell back books on the Peru State Campus?

There is no physical location to purchase books on the Peru State Campus. Students that need help purchasing books are encouraged to contact Akademos directly at the bookstore website. Akademos will provide on-campus support for book buy-backs.

How can Akademos offer lower prices?

In addition to stocking new and used books at retail prices, Akademos also offers a marketplace option where students can often buy from the same sellers found on Amazon. Textbook listings are tied to our course list by ISBN number, so students are guaranteed to get the correct book. Moreover, students can use financial aid for all purchases at our virtual bookstore, including marketplace items. They can’t do that at Amazon.

How do I login to the new bookstore website?

Peru State students will use their NUID credentials to login to the new online bookstore. New Peru State students should have received their NUID at the end of the initial application process. Students unsure of their NUID should visit this website.

How do I know what books to purchase for the semester?

Peru State faculty have provided all their textbook and materials needs to Akademos. Working with Peru State’s information system, Akademos will provide a list of required books and other materials for the upcoming semester automatically.

How does the marketplace work?

The Akademos marketplace is fully secured through the platform: they handle the seller payment and even provide a shipping label to help keep track of items while in transit. Items available through the marketplace are being offered by individual sellers and volume sellers that have signed on as Akademos members.

Purchasing from the marketplace sellers is just like purchasing any other item. Buyers can search the marketplace for a particular book, using the ISBN, title, author, or other search criteria. Once a purchaser has found the items they’re looking for, they may simply add it to their shopping cart and check out by using their institution’s preferred payment method (i.e. vouchers or all major credit cards) to complete the transaction.

Akademos makes every effort to provide buyers and sellers with the best possible experience. To that end, they implement policies meant to ensure purchases are delivered in a timely fashion and are usable when they arrive. In the event a purchase doesn’t work out as intended, the Buyer Protection Policy is specifically designed to protect buyers in cases where something goes wrong. Akademos’ commitment to provide the best customer shopping experience means working with the best sellers in the business.  One way Akademos maintains this standard is by inviting customers to provide valuable feedback after completing their transactions through a self-service tool.

Can I rent a textbook from Akademos?

Yes, Akademos offers a textbook rental option for students on select titles. When Akademos receives your school’s booklist, all of your requested titles will be evaluated for possible inclusion in the semesters’ line-up of available books for rent. If a textbook is offered as a rental, that purchasing option will be viewable by students alongside “New,” “Used”, “eBook”, and “Marketplace.”

Can I buy books other than the ones required for my classes?

Can I buy Peru State t-shirts, apparel and other branded items via the Akademos online bookstore?

No. Akademos specializes in textbooks, books and other classroom materials. Students are encouraged to visit the Cat Cave in the Student Center on campus for all their Peru State gear.

How can I pay for books I purchase through Akademos?

Akademos can be charged to your financial aid, it can be paid via a book voucher code or you can pay via a major credit card.

What is a book voucher code?

Voucher codes consist of financial aid money issued to students to purchase books through the virtual bookstore.  Any student using a book voucher to place an order will be assigned a voucher code with a credit limit.  Akademos will send students their unique voucher code via an email notification.  Students will use the voucher code during the checkout process to buy all types of book formats and merchandise from Akademos.

What shipping options are available?

Akademos offers multiple shipping options in order to best suit customers’ needs. The United States Postal Service (USPS) and UPS are the main carriers for shipping. USPS standard shipping is available all year round—with FREE economy shipping on retail orders over $49. UPS shipping levels range from Standard Ground shipping to Next Day Air. Please note that marketplace orders are not eligible for the free shipping option.

Can I have books delivered to campus?

What if I have books from the summer of 2016 that I would like to return to the previous bookstore provider, Follet?

Please contact Follet with any questions about their return and buyback policies at Unfortunately, because Peru State no longer has a relationship with Follet, buyback options and rental contracts are between our students and Follet.

If you would like to sell a book you own, Akademos does buy books at any time. Please review their options at our online website:
