Lierz and Peterson Earn Capital One Volleyball Academic All-America All-District Honors



(Peru, Neb.) – Two Peru State Bobcat volleyball players were named to the Capital One Academic All-District teams which was announced on Thursday by CoSIDA and Capital One.

Earning NAIA District 28 honors this fall were junior Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) and senior Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah). Lierz was named to the District's First Team while Peterson earned Second Team recognition.

Student-athletes are nominated by current members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) which is a national organization comprised of the sports public relations, communications and information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. This year CoSIDA completely revamped their districts and grouped more states into districts, making them larger, but much more competitive. There were 97 nominees in the district this fall.

In order to be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in either their undergrad or graduate work. As part of the voting process, information regarding a nominee's academic and athletic accomplishments is considered, as are any career highlight.

Brittany Peterson

For Peterson, the following information was submitted as part of her nomination excluding statistics: "2X Dean's List…2010 Central Valley Conference Second Team All-Conference…2011 Central Valley Conference First Team All-Conference…Central Valley Conference All-Tournament Team…4X starter…4X letter winner…2011 Vice President of Associated Student Body…Claws Out All-Tournament Team…American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award…Various volunteer work with the team and in the community…HAAC Sportsmanship Award…Will be Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete."

The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

By earning the All-District First Team honors, Lierz will be in consideration for Capital One Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on December 9.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
