Auburn, Bellevue West, Deshler, Grand Island Central Catholic and Norris High Schools take top honors at 42nd annual Peru State Show Choir Festival


(Peru, Neb.) Five Nebraska high school show choirs were selected from among 27 groups from across the region as best in their respective classes following Peru State College’s 42nd Annual Show Choir Festival.

Winning show choirs include:
Class AA:              Bellevue West’s West Connection
                        Director: Janelle Reetz

Class A:                 Norris High School’s Norris Gold
                        Director: Wes Hansmeyer

Class B:                 Auburn’s Rhythm in Red         
                        Director: Meghan Knipe

Class C:                 Grand Island Central Catholic’s Blue Rhapsody
                        Director: Deb Scheel

Class D:                 Deshler Show Choir
                        Director: Deb Pohlmann

Participants were judged by guest clinician and adjudicator Paul Gulsvig, an experienced choral director and show choir expert from Wisconsin. Gulsvig taught vocal music for 33 years before retiring in 2006 from Onalaska High School in Onalaska, Wis. In recent years, Gulsvig has spent his time as a retreat presenter, motivational speaker and presenting leadership workshops for high school. This is the third time Gulsvig has served as a guest clinician/adjudicator for Peru State’s Show Choir Festival.

The Peru State School of Arts and Sciences, NAfME Collegiate Music Chapter and Misty Blues Show Choir sponsor the event.
