Wall Hangings by Anna May Whittington
(Peru, Neb.) The first exhibit of the 2013-14 season, “Wall Hangings” by Anna May Whittington, will run Aug. 19 through Sept. 19 in the Peru State College Art Gallery.
An opening reception for the artist will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug 25 in the Art Gallery, located on first floor of the A.V. Larson Building. The event is free and open to the public.
Whittington, a 96-year-old southeast Nebraska native, began what she refers to as her “creative period” in 1935 but has concentrated primarily on quilts and “wall hangings” for the past 50 years. Much of the materials she uses she denotes as recycled. Some of the fabrics used in her compositions are more than 100 years old.
Peru State Art Professor Dr. Ken Anderson said, “Mrs. Whittington has an innate design sensibility in color as well as structure which the viewer will find very interesting, not only as a wall hanging or mini-quilt but also as a piece of art.”
The public is invited to view Whittington’s exhibit during regular gallery hours, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday or by appointment. For more information, contact Art Professor Ken Anderson at 402-872-2271 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
