The PEAKS organization provides meaningful, educational and career-related experiences for health, physical education and exercise science majors at Peru State. PEAKS has worked closely with Auburn’s Calvert Elementary School on nutrition instruction, collecting ‘step-count’ data, and hosted a health, science and career fair at Auburn High School. PEAKS also co-hosted the showing of HBO documentary Weight of the Nation at the Auburn State Theatre.

The goal of PBL is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development. PBL students are active members of the CHANCE Initiative, which has assisted in planning the events.

Developed by Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Science Dr. Kyle Ryan and Associate Professor of Business Sheri Grotrian-Ryan, the CHANCE Initiative exists to encourage healthier lifestyles among area children and their families by creating awareness and educating them about better choices. It provides an opportunity for our students to put what they have learned in the classroom into practice while serving the community. Students have partnered with Calvert Elementary School and the Auburn Family Health Center on other initiatives.
