Peru State to Screen HBO documentary The Weight of the Nation at Auburn State Theatre Monday, Jan. 21
(Peru, Neb.) Peru State College (PSC) invites residents of southeast Nebraska to attend a free screening of the HBO documentary The Weight of the Nation at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at the State Theatre in Auburn, Neb. The first 100 people through the door will receive a free pedometer.
The event is free and open to the public. It is being sponsored by the college’s Children’s Health, Activity & Nutrition Community Engagement (CHANCE) Initiative as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr., day of service.
The screening will be followed by an open session where attendees can ask questions and discuss options available for proper nutrition and exercise.
Associate Professor of Education and Human Performance Lab Coordinator Dr. Kyle Ryan said, “While obesity rates have begun to level off in urban areas, they continue to rise in rural communities. We hope people from across southeast Nebraska will join us to learn more about the causes of this epidemic and what each individual can do to combat it.”
The documentary is a presentation of HBO and the Institute of Medicine (IOM), in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and in partnership with the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.
