Peru State to Host 41st Annual Show Choir Festival Oct. 23-24
Now accepting registrations from area high school and middle school show choirs
(Peru, Neb.) Peru State College (PSC) will host its 41st Annual Show Choir Festival for high school and middle school students Tuesday, Oct. 23 and Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the College Theatre. Peru State’s Misty Blues Show Choir, under the director of Dr. Jacob Bartlett, will perform both days.
Director of Choral Activities Dr. Thomas Ediger said that while the primary purpose of the festival is to provide a chance early in the year for show choirs to get performance experience, it’s also an opportunity for students to compete with their peers. The guest clinician/adjudicator will choose one top group for each of five classes.
“The festival typically brings more than 500 students to Peru State each year,” Ediger said. “We look forward to welcoming these talented groups and offering them constructive feedback that will help further develop and refine their performances.”
Each competing show choir will have 30 minutes to perform before receiving feedback from guest clinician Annette Layman. Layman has adjudicated and choreographed for more than 200 schools and other educational organizations, including the Brightleaf Music Workshop in North Carolina, FAME events of Arizona and Show Choir Camps of America.
Space is limited. The deadline for groups to register is Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012. To register or for additional information, contact Ediger at 402-872-2253 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Show Choir Festival is co-sponsored by the School of Arts and Sciences and the PSC chapter of the student Music Educators National Conference.
