Variety of music performances, concerts at Peru State in April

 

(Peru, Neb.) The month of April will feature a variety of musical performances and concerts at Peru State College (PSC). All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, April 12

Saturday, April 14
23rd Annual Piano Extravaganza
7 p.m. - College Theatre
$7 for adults, $2 for students

More than 200 pianists from across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri will convene at Peru State to perform in the college’s 23rd Annual Piano Extravaganza.

The event, which begins in the morning with rehearsals throughout the day, culminates with a “piano orchestra” concert at 7 p.m. in the College Theatre. The grand finale will include 30 pianists performing duets together on 15 pianos on one stage under the direction of Ediger.

The Piano Extravaganza rehearsals and concert are open to the public. Admission to the evening concert is $7 for adults and $2 for students. Tickets are available at the door, which opens at 6:05 p.m. There is no admission charge to attend rehearsals, which begin at 10:30 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the PSC Music Department and the student Music Educators National Conference chapter. It is made possible through the support of Dietze Music House of Lincoln and Omaha and the Yamaha Corporation of America, which provide the pianos.

“An Evening with the Madrigal Singers” will feature a varied program of traditional madrigals, French chansons, Italian songs and rounds followed by solos, duets and ensembles from musical theatre. Among the traditional madrigals will be In the Merry Spring by Thomas Ravenscroft, All Ye Who Music Love by Baldassare Donato and Fa una canzona by Orazio Vecchi.  The second part of the program will showcase songs from musical theatre, including medleys by Stephen Sondheim and songs from Sweeney Todd.

Misty Blues Show Choir and Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble Concert
7:30 p.m. - Jindra Recital Hall 
The program will feature a variety of popular, Broadway, rock and jazz musical selections.
