Winners of 39th Annual Peru State Jazz Festival announced

 

(Peru, Neb.) Three area high school jazz ensembles recently took top honors at Peru State College’s (PSC) 39th Annual Jazz Festival. A soloist from each band was also recognized.

The winners and their directors are:

Class AA
Elkhorn South High School - Dr. Michelle Bluford, Director

Class A/B
Gretna High School - Alex Wimmer, Director

Class C
Tri-County High School – Nate Morrissey, Director

The bands were judged by Ansyn Banks, a musician who has performed R&B with the likes of Aretha Franklin, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Temptations Review, The Mighty Dells, Dick Oatts, Harry Pickens, Chuck Marohnic, Hank Marr, Gene Walker, Melvin Rhyne, and many other jazz artists and R&B artists. Banks directs the University of Louisville’s jazz combo program and teaches jazz trumpet, jazz styles and analysis, and jazz improvisation.
