St. Libory junior awarded NE Business Hall of Fame Scholarship
(Peru, Neb.) Peru State College (PSC) junior Mary Ellen Martin, a business education major from St. Libory, was recently awarded a Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Nebraska Business Hall of Fame Scholarship at the organization’s annual banquet in Lincoln. The scholarship can be used for tuition, room and board, and/or books for the 2012-13 academic year.
The Nebraska Business Hall of Fame Scholarship Foundation is designed to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students in their sophomore or junior year of college who are attending recognized Nebraska colleges and universities and seeking degrees in business-related fields of study. It exists to ensure strong business growth for Nebraska’s future. The program is administered through the Nebraska Community Foundation.
Business Professor and Faculty Advisor Dr. Judy Grotrian said, “Mary Ellen is very deserving of this prestigious scholarship. There are many talented students at Peru State, and it is exciting to have one of our own rewarded for her hard work. Mary Ellen’s dedication to academics and her willingness to go above and beyond the requirements indicates she will be an outstanding educator.”
School of Professional Studies Dean Dr. Gregory Galardi said, “Mary Ellen Martin is a testament to our success as a college, the dedication of our faculty and the Southeast Nebraska community. We especially appreciate the work of Dr. Judy Grotrian in providing mentoring and leadership for Mary Ellen during this competitive process. I congratulate them both on this honor.”
Martin said, “It is an honor to receive this recognition and to be awarded such a prestigious scholarship by the Nebraska State Chamber. I would not have had this opportunity without the life-changing guidance of my instructors at Peru State or the support of my parents. Special thanks to my business professor and advisor Dr. Grotrian and Dean Galardi for sharing their expertise and for their encouragement.”
Martin is the daughter of Jim and Twyla Martin of St. Libory.
