Peru State bands to perform concert at 3 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 4

 

(Peru, Neb.) The Peru State College (PSC) College Band and Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble will perform a concert at 3 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 4 in the College Theatre. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

 

Among the College Band selections are The Philosopher’s Stone by Thomas Duffy, The Marbled Midnight Mile by Steven Bryant, commissioned in part by PSC along with other Nebraska colleges, universities and public schools; Fortress by Frank Ticheli, and Alfred Reed’s classic, Russian Christmas Music.

 

The Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of jazz and popular songs, including Tower of Power’s Soul Vaccination, Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock, Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones, Pat Methany’srecording of Afternoon, the Stax classic Hold On, I’m Coming, Carlos Santana’s Evil Ways, and The Chicken, as recorded by Jaco Pastorius.

 

The groups are directed by PSC Dean of Arts and Sciences and Director of Bands Dr. Patrick Fortney.
