Clemente Honored with Executive Director and Distinguished Service Awards by Alpha Chi
(Peru, Neb.) Peru State College (PSC) Professor of English Dr. Bill Clemente was recently honored by Alpha Chi, a national scholarship honor society, with the organization’s Executive Director and Distinguished Service Awards.
The Executive Director’s Award, which carries a $500 stipend, was given in recognition of Clemente’s exceptional service to Alpha Chi and for his leadership in the PSC chapter. Clemente was also one of 11 individuals selected from across the country for the organization’s Distinguished Service Award.
Clemente said, “The awards came as joyful shocks. This special recognition means a great deal to me.”
In addition to acting as sponsor for the Nebraska Delta Chapter, Clemente has been secretary-treasurer of Region IV Alpha Chi since 2004, a position that gives him a seat on the 22-member National Council. An avid and accomplished photographer, Clemente has become the unofficial chronicler of Alpha Chi’s national conventions, working tirelessly to photograph events and produce a video shown at each convention’s closing session.
Alpha Chi recognizes the achievements of top scholars in arts and sciences, professional studies, education and graduate studies. Students must be juniors or seniors and rank in the top 10 percent of their academic institution to qualify. As members of Alpha Chi, students are eligible for individual scholarships at both the regional and national level. They are also afforded opportunities to publish their works in the society’s journal, the Alpha Chi Recorder, and attend regional and national conferences. There are currently around 300 active Alpha Chi chapters throughout the United States.
