Peru State College Announces Winners of 38th Annual Jazz Festival
(Peru, Neb.) Three area high school bands recently took top honors at Peru State College’s (PSC) 38th Annual Jazz Festival. A soloist from each band was also recognized.
The winners and their directors are:
Elkhorn South - Dr. Michelle Bluford, Director
Best Soloist: Bob Schlauser
Platteview – Jerry Layher, Director
Best Soloist: Emily Scholting
Tri-County – Nate Morrissey, Director
Best Soloist: Curtis Reynolds
The bands and soloists were judged by Dr. Walter Busse, music coordinator for Carrollton Preparatory School for girls in Coconut Grove, Fla. Busse began his professional music career at age 14 and was awarded a full scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he earned Bachelor's degrees in music education and electronic music. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in media writing and a Ph.D. in music education from the University of Miami.
In addition to years of teaching and directing, Busse owns and operates a music services corporation with professional engagements as a multi-instrumental performer/contractor, church music director/organist, producer/audio engineer, arranger/composer, piano tuner, music technology consultant, adjudicator and ASCAP copyright infringement private investigator. Groups under his direction have performed throughout the United States and abroad at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Vatican, Notre Dame Cathedral, Disney World and Euro-Disney.
