Fireman's Cook-Off Benefits Relay for Life
(Peru, Nebraska) The Bobcat Relay for Life team will hold the First Annual Fireman’s Cook-Off to raise funds for Southeast Nebraska Relay for Life. The Soup Supper will take place on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the VWF Club in downtown Peru. Soup will be served from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. along with desserts donated by Peru State College employees. The local volunteer fire departments of Auburn, Brock, Brownville, Nemaha, and Peru will be competing for the best soup around. Free-will donations will be accepted. Two blankets will also be raffled at the soup supper.
Peru State College’s Relay for Life team, The Bobcats, is coordinated and led by Student Success Services (SSS) peer mentors. In recognition of National TRiO Day on February 26, SSS organized this community service event that provides an opportunity for PSC students and community members to work together towards a common goal. The mission of federally funded TRiO programs is to increase educational attainment levels for low income and first generation college students.
Bobcat Relay for Life Team chairperson, Adam DeBilzan, comments “On behalf of the Bobcat Relay for Life team, I would like to personally thank everyone who helps to make the soup supper possible. We could not do it without all of the willing volunteers. Thank you for making a difference!"
