Bellevue West, Hamburg, Norris, Sabetha and Wilber- Clatonia High Schools Take Top Honors at 39th Annual Peru State Show Choir Festival


(Peru, Neb.) Five high school show choirs from Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas were selected from among 28 groups from across the region as best in their respective classes following Peru State College’s (PSC) 39th Annual Show Choir Festival.

Winning groups include:

Class AA:
Bellevue West’s West Connection

Norris High School’s Norris Gold
Director: Wes Hansmeyer

Class B:          
Sabetha (Kan.) High School’s Odyssey
Director: Vicki Angell

Class C:          
Wilber-Clatonia’s Emerald and Gold
Director: Judith Vrbka

Class D:          
Hamburg (Iowa) High School’s Hamburg Show Choir
Director: Teri Emberton

Choirs were judged by guest clinician and adjudicator Greg Jasperse, a Los Angeles, Calif., freelance musician whose work as a singer has landed him on the film scores of National Treasure 2, Couples Retreat, Star Trek, Wolfman, The Last Airbender and SALT. He is also an adjunct professor of music at Pasadena City College where he directs the vocal jazz ensemble. Jasperse worked with each group individually, providing detailed critiques of their performances.

The Show Choir Festival is co-sponsored by PSC’s School of Arts and Sciences and the student Music Educators Chapter.
