Russian Pianist Irena Ravitskaya to Perform Recital at Peru State Tuesday, Sept. 14
(Peru, Neb.) Guest pianist Dr. Irena Ravitskaya will present a piano recital at Peru State College (PSC) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the College Theatre. The program will feature two masterworks for piano solo, including Beethoven’s Sonata in F Minor, Op. 57 (the Appassionata) and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.
The event is free and open to the public.
Ravitskaya was born in Moldova (the former Soviet Union). She began playing the piano at age six and by age nine had won the National Competition of Moldova. Ravitskaya attended the State School of Music and at 16 won the Young Artists State Competition and was invited to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra. Her performances were broadcast on National Radio and Moldova State Television. Ravitskaya later studied at Moldova State Conservatory where her principal teacher was Alexander Paley.
Ravitskaya immigrated to the United States in 1995. She earned a Master’s degree in music from Boise State University and a Ph.D. in music from Indiana University. Ravitskaya is currently an assistant professor of music at Fort Hays State University in Hayes, Kan., and enjoys a dynamic performing and teaching career that has taken her across the United States as well as Europe.
