(Peru, Neb.) Seventeen area high school students took top honors at Peru State College’s (PSC) 37th Annual High School Business Contest, each walking away with a $500 tuition scholarship to PSC.

The students competed with their peers from 22 schools in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri in 15 business disciplines, including accounting, advanced accounting, business communications, business law, business math, computer concepts, economics, entrepreneurship, introduction to business, job interview, keyboarding objective, keyboarding skills, marketing, personal finance and Web page design.

Dr. Judy Grotrian, contest director, said, “The students participating in this competition raise the bar year after year. We were fortunate to once again have a truly outstanding group of intelligent, business-minded students involved.”

Schools that participated in the competition include Auburn High School, Deshler High School, Douglas County West, Falls City High School, Freeman High School, Fremont-Mills High School, Heartland Community Schools, HTRS High School, Johnson County Central, Johnson-Brock High School, Nebraska City Lourdes Central High School, Platteview High School, Sterling High School, Syracuse High School, Tarkio High School, Tri-County High School and Waverly High School.

First through fifth place winners, their instructors and high schools are listed below by category. First-place winners in each of the 15 categories received $500 tuition scholarships (for on-campus classes) to PSC. PSC offers tuition through its “One Rate, Any State” program, which allows students from across the country to take classes while paying in-state tuition rates. Medals were also awarded to first through fifth-place winners in each category.
