Peru State Choirs in Concert Sunday, Feb. 21
( Peru, Neb.) The Peru State College (PSC) Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers and Misty Blues Show Choir will perform a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 in the College Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.
The Concert Choir will open the program with works that include Awake the Trumpet’s Lofty Sound by George F. Handel, Gloria in Excelsis by Mozart, Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves by Verdi and a patriotic selection of America the Beautiful arranged by Mark Hayes.
The Madrigal Singers will entertain with some traditional madrigals, including Which Is the Properest Day by Dr. Thomas Arne, All at Once Well Met Fair Ladies by Thomas Weelkes and All Creatures Now are Merry Minded by John Bennet. In addition to traditional madrigals pieces, the group will perform You are the New Day by John David.
The Misty Blues will conclude the program with a mixture of popular and Broadway selections. The program includes Higher Love by Steve Winwood; Yes We Can Can, recorded by the Pointer Sisters; When You’re Home, from the musical In the Heights; and Man in the Mirror, recorded by Michael Jackson.
The choirs are led by PSC Music Professor and Director of Choral Activities Dr. Thomas Ediger. Denis Plutalov, doctoral piano student from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, will serve as pianist. The Misty Blues singers will be joined by a rhythm section with PSC students David Norris on piano, Phillip Chinske on drums and Tristan Bassinger on bass.
