Peru State Education Association Receives Local Chapter Excellence Award
(Peru, Neb.) The Peru State College Education Association (PSEA) was recently awarded the 2008-2009 Local Chapter Excellence Award by the Student Education Association of Nebraska (SEAN) at the organization’s 2009 Delegate Assembly.
PSEA President Emilee Simpson, a senior from Omaha, said, “We are honored to receive this award as it not only recognizes Peru State’s quality education program, but also PSEA’s efforts to reach out to our surrounding communities to effect change in the profession.”
Last fall PSEA sponsored a community outreach effort at Plattsmouth Public Schools to help improve students’ writing skills as well as a pre-professional development seminar on campus, in which approximately 40 teacher candidates participated. Spring semester activities have included hosting an outreach effort for more than 1,200 Head Start and K-4th grade students from a dozen area schools at the annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Party and Celebration. The event is held in conjunction with Read Across America Week and is intended to help children develop a love for reading.
