(Peru, Neb.) Seventeen area high school students took top honors at Peru State College’s (PSC) 36th Annual High School Business Contest, each walking away with a $500 tuition scholarship to PSC.

The students competed with their peers from 22 schools in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri in 15 business disciplines, including accounting, advanced accounting, business communications, business law, business math, computer concepts, economics, entrepreneurship, introduction to business, job interview, keyboarding objective, keyboarding skills, marketing, personal finance and Web page design.

Dr. Judy Grotrian, contest director, said, “The students participating in this competition raise the bar year after year. We were fortunate to once again have a truly outstanding group of intelligent, business-minded students involved.”

Participating high schools and their instructors included Auburn High School – Teresa Hahn; Deshler High School – Cletus Cormen; Douglas County West High School – Kate Carlson; Fairbury High School – Wade Miller; Falls City High School – Donna Eickhoff; Freeman High School – Nicholas Herrington; Fremont-Mills (Iowa) High School – Matt Thompson; Heartland Community Schools – Kristy Most, Humboldt-Table Rock-Steiner High School – Joan Dreier; Johnson-Brock High School – Sylvia Smith; Johnson County Central – Angie Huskey and Dustin Buggi; Kickapoo Nation (Kansas) High School – Carol Malcom; Norris High School – Sid Conrad; Omaha Benson High School – Rene Gochenour; Platteview High School – Patti Layher and Teresa Starks; Sidney (Iowa) High School – Dyan Larsen; Southeast Consolidated High School – Vicki Beilke; Sterling High School – Patti Puls; Syracuse High School – Mary Jane Green and Susan Wellman; Tarkio (Missouri) High School – Winter Duley; Tri-County High School – Dennis Krejci; and Waverly High School – Murleen Bellinger.

First through fifth place winners and their high schools are listed below by category. A tuition-remission scholarship in the amount of $500 was awarded to the first place winners in each category. Medals were awarded to first through fifth place winners in each category.
