Peru State College to Offer Free Reading Clinic this Fall for Elementary-Aged Children
(Peru, Neb.) Peru State College’s (PSC) School of Education will offer a free reading clinic this fall for elementary-aged children who need additional support to maintain or improve their reading skills. PSC’s elementary education teacher candidates will provide the individualized assessment and assistance for parents and children.
The Clinic will begin with a free assessment on Thursday, Sept. 18. Students and their parents/guardians will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the TJ Majors Building on the PSC campus for assessments and an informational meeting once an application has been completed and accepted. Early enrollment is necessary as space is limited. Free tutoring sessions, if deemed appropriate, will be scheduled following the assessment.
PSC Instructor and Reading Clinic Sponsor Gina Bittner said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to take a proactive step toward helping their child achieve success in the classroom and foster a life-long love of reading. Our teacher candidates will implement a team approach and provide the best possible instruction to foster self-determination and improved reading ability in participants. We’re confident that parents who enroll their children in the clinic will see real growth in their skills and self-confidence.”
Space is limited and advance registration is required. An application form is available on the PSC Web site at http://www.peru.edu/Education/faculty/bittner/bittner.htm. The form can be printed and mailed to Peru State College, School of Education, Attn: Gina Bittner, P.O. Box 10, Peru, NE 68421 or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
