Peru, Nebraska- Forty Peru State College students competed in the 2016-2017 Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held in Kearney, Nebraska. Those students brought home more than 80 top ten finishes including 12 first place awards.

Dr. Sheri Grotrian-Ryan, Phi Beta Lambda faculty advisor and associate professor, writes, “As you can see from the lengthy list, Peru State did extremely well again this year. Join me in congratulating these individuals on their well-deserved honors!”

“In addition to the state awards, 20 students automatically qualified for Nationals.”

The top 2 or 3 finishes, depending on the contest, are automatically eligible to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California this June. Students can compete in only 2 events at Nationals.

Grotrian-Ryan adds, “Since we have several students that will need to choose which events to compete in nationally, other students may ‘move up’ in the standings as participants decide which events they will enter.”

The Peru State College PBL chapter was again recognized with a Gold Level Excellence Award. Gold Level Excellence is the highest level possible and shows that the chapter contributed to regional and national conferences; PBL public relations; community service; and fundraising.  Peru State was similarly recognized in 2016.

It was also noted that the Peru State PBL chapter has the second largest local four-year college membership.
