Position:
Math-Science Skills Specialist

 

 

Start Date: Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Salary: Salary low $30,000’s, depending upon qualifications and experience.  The position is a full-time, 10 month per year position. This is a grant-funded position with 3 years remaining in the current grant period. Position is contingent upon receipt of continued federal funding for the grant. Excellent benefits package.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required (master’s preferred), and demonstrated skill with entry-level college math, science, writing, and computer use.  Preferred degree areas include college student personnel, education, counseling, math, science, and adult literacy.  A minimum of two years’ professional experience working within an educational setting or a management position is strongly preferred.  Instructional experience is preferred.  A minimum of one year’s experience working with TRIO programs is desirable.  The candidate should have an understanding of the history and goals of the TRIO-Student Support Services program and be familiar with the characteristics of low-income and first generation college students and students with disabilities.  Excellent oral and written communications skills and a genuine willingness to work with students to improve academic performance are required.  Preference may be given to candidates whose background is similar to the target TRIO population. 

Responsibilities:

The Math/Science Skills Specialist oversees a peer tutoring program and provides academic support services for participants in a federally funded TRIO-Student Support Services (SSS) project.  The Math/Science Skills Specialist recruits, trains and assigns peer tutors; provides professional tutoring in entry-level STEM areas; and directly supports the adjustment of students to the challenges of higher education.
