Students who wish to apply for summer aid must complete a Summer Financial Aid Application. The Summer Financial Aid Application will be available as a link in your myPSC portal in late March. Before you can complete the application you must be registered for your summer courses and we must have received your 2010-2011 FAFSA results.
Summer financial aid eligibility will be based on the results of your 2010/11 FAFSA form. If you have not already completed a 2010/11 FAFSA form, you can complete this application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The deadline for filing a 2010/11 FAFSA form is June 30, 2011.
Financial aid eligibility for the summer term will be based on your total enrollment for all sessions within the summer term (mid May to mid August). Students who were enrolled for fall and spring semesters and received aid may have limited remaining eligibility for the summer term.
Pell Grants: The Federal PELL Grant Program has been revised to help students who are taking an accelerated course load. Most students who were PELL eligible and enrolled full-time during the fall and spring of the 2010-2011 year will also be eligible during the summer session if they are enrolled at or above 6 credit hours. Students enrolled part-time during the fall and spring may be eligible if enrolled below 6 credit hours. The Financial Aid Office will review your eligibility automatically and award grant funds whenever possible. New regulations allow a school to compare your current year (2010-11) FAFSA results with your upcoming year (2011-12) FAFSA results to determine a student's grant eligibility. If you submit your 2011-12 FAFSA and we find your new FAFSA results provide you with more grant funds, you will be notified of the change. This does not require any additional activity on your part.
Stafford Loan Eligibility: Student loan recipients who have already borrowed the annual maximum at their grade level would have no remaining loan eligibility for the summer term. The annual maximums are as follows:
Dependent Students
Freshman - $5,500
Sophomore - $6,500
2nd BA Junior/Senior - $7,500
Post Graduate Teacher Cert. - $12,500
Graduate - $20,500
Independent Students
Freshman - $9,500
Sophomore - $10,500
2nd BA Junior/Senior - $12,500
Post Graduate Teacher Cert. - $12,500
Graduate - $20,500
If you have loan eligibility remaining, you will be offered a loan for the summer session. You must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours to be eligible for loans.
Federal Work Study: Federal Work Study (FWS) funds may be available for students who are seeking part-time jobs on-campus to help defray college expenses. The FWS program is a need based program so not all students are eligible. Job availability in the summer is limited. If you request a FWS position on your summer aid application, and we have funds available you will be offered FWS in your award package and a FWS Application will be placed on your ToDo list. Job placement information will be available in the Financial Aid Office the 1st week of classes.
