What if I have to drop a course?

If you decide to drop a course, you must first inform your teacher and then notify the College representative responsible for the Early Entry program. The following regulations apply dropping a course:

  1. You have 2 weeks after the PSC representative registers you for the course to drop the course. During this period of time, 100% of the tuition paid will be refunded.

  2. You may withdraw from a course (after the drop period has expired) up to approximately the mid-point of the course. The exact date is published on the college calendar. No tuition is refunded after the drop period. A grade of “W” is given.

  3. If your family moves out of the district, or if a major illness or accident requires you to drop all high school courses for an extended period, you can receive a 100% tuition refund up to the 10th. week of the semester. If you drop the courses(s) under these conditions, you will not receive any PSC credit for work completed in the dropped course(s). The PSC representative can help you with this process.

Will all colleges and universities accept my credit hours from PSC?

Credit recognition remains the exclusive right of the institution granting it. College policies vary in regard to transfer credit, and may be applied differently from year to year.

Generally, colleges will accept courses in which you’ve earned a “C” or above and that are a good match for those you would have taken on that campus. Courses that differ from those the college offers may also be transferred, but often as elective credit.

Who do I talk with about transfer credit?

Your high school counselor or academic advisor should be the first person to contact. Counselors provide academic counseling and work closely with colleges and universities. If they do not know, they will contact a school to determine if courses will be accepted in credit transfer. If you know the college that you will be attending, talk with a college official such as a dean or department chairperson. You may also contact the PSC representative for additional assistance.

Some things to remember:

  • Many schools in Nebraska have transfer agreements in place and will readily accept the credits from PSC.

  • The department chair or dean of the academic department your course affects will be the most helpful to approve PSC transfer credits.

  • Admissions representatives usually do not have the authority to make transfer credit decisions.

What if my college/university will not accept my PSC course?

There are 4 steps in the process for acceptance of transfer credit by a college or university:

  1. You have sent a PSC transcript.

  2. You have talked with the appropriate college official.

  3. You have shown your syllabus and course information to the appropriate official.

  4. You have called our office (PSC) and asked us to contact on your behalf the appropriate person at your school.

After following the above, there may still be some institutions that will not accept transfer credit. There may be other ways that your college can recognize your PSC credits. You may be exempt from taking a similar required course or you may be placed in a higher-level course as a result of your PSC experience. Typically colleges will not force you to retake coursework that you have already taken.

If my college doesn’t accept my transfer credit, has my tuition to PSC been wasted?

Absolutely not! The credit (and the educational experience) is always yours. You may well be able to transfer the credit to a different school if you should transfer for some reason. If you should drop out of college, the work you completed at PSC will always be there for you and will serve you well throughout life!
