Tutoring
 

PSC offers free tutoring through the following venues.

ATP Walk-in Lab
Purpose:
The CATS supports the PSC Athletic Department's Academic Training Program by providing tutoring for entry-level courses and supporting development of effective study strategies. ATP tutoring is open to all students.

Location:

CATS Main Floor

Hours:

Mon – Wed, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Procedure:

No appointment necessary. Just drop in. Student-athletes meeting ATP program requirements must sign in and out. Click on the link above to view the schedule.

 

Distance Tutoring for Online-only Students
 

Purpose:

To provide tutorial assistance for students who cannot come to campus (Not available to students taking one or more classes on campus)

  Procedure: Distance tutoring is conducted via Skype, phone, and/or e-mail correspondence. To request a tutor, fill out the Distance Tutoring Request form.

Individualized Tutoring for Students with Qualifying Disabilities
 

Purpose:

To provide necessary accommodations
  Location: CATS or other public meeting areas
  Hours: Arranged
  Procedure:

Provide Marie Meland with documentation of disability and find out whether tutoring is determined to be a necessary and reasonable accommodation.

Math Lab
  Purpose: To provide instructional support for MATH 100 Elementary Algebra and peer tutoring for math courses in general.
  Location: CATS Garden Level (lower floor) in 015 computer lab and open study area outside the lab
  Hours: Mon – Thurs, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (depending on tutor availability)
  Procedure:

No appointment necessary. Just drop in. The schedule is regularly updated and posted at the top of this page , on flyers around campus, and on the CATS main floor bulletin board. MATH 100 students meeting lab time requirements must sign in and out.

Writing and Speaking Lab

 

Purpose:

To provide instructional support for ENG 100 Elements of Composition and peer tutoring for writing assignments and speech preparation for any course/subject area.

  Location:

CATS Top Floor (208) with overflow on CATS main floor

  Hours:

Mon – Thurs, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (depending on tutor availability)

  Procedure:

No appointment necessary. Just drop in. The schedule is regularly updated and posted at the top of this page , on flyers around campus, and on the CATS main floor bulletin board.

 

The Writing and Speaking Lab has computers and reference manuals available, so students can work on assignments there and have access to tutorial support when they have questions. The lab also has a private video room where students can record themselves practicing speeches and/or engaging in mock interviews for self-critique and, if desired, feedback from tutors.

Tutor-facilitated Group Study
 

Purpose:

To provide tutorial assistance to student-formed study groups
  Location: Public meeting areas agreed upon by the tutor and the study group
  Hours: Times agreed upon by the tutor and the study group
  Procedure:

Get together a minimum of 2 students, figure out what times you

can be available, and contact Marie Meland to request a tutor.

TRIO-SSS Tutoring for SSS Members
 

Purpose:

To provide individualized tutoring and Supplemental Instruction for

students enrolled in the TRIO-Student Success Services project

  Location: Public meeting areas agreed upon by the tutor and the student(s)
  Hours: Times agreed upon by the tutors and the student(s)
  Procedure:

About Our Tutors

 

PSC Tutors will not do work for students, but will instead assist with learning concepts, rules, and/or strategies. The peer tutors are students who have been recommended by professors. Computerized Tutorial Programs Provided by Peru State College

 

Grammarly Online Writing Review

 

Formerly called Sentenceworks, this online computerized program scans writing and provides feedback on potential errors. PSC students can create accounts using their Acornmail addresses. (Accounts previously created in Sentenceworks have been transferred to Grammarly@edu and should still be active.) Go to http://www.grammarly.com/edu/students/ to log in, retreive a password, or set up a new account. Then just paste your writing into the window, send it for feedback, and see how useful this program can be!

 

Grammarly also offers the following free services:

  • Grammarly Handbook: " a virtual grammar handbook that describes various grammatical rules and offers examples of correct and incorrect use"
  • Grammarly Answers: " a free service where users can ask and answer any question related to English grammar and writing"
