Standardized Tests Administered at PSC

The CATS offers a variety of testing services, including test-taking tips, test coordination and proctoring, and special testing accommodations for students with disabilities. Standardized tests for which services are coordinated through the CATS include:

Accuplacer (Peru State College's placement/proficiency test)

Peru State College uses the Accuplacer to identify college-level course placement appropriate to a student’s skills level in mathematics and/or English and as a measure of proficiency for advancement beyond developmental math and English courses. Click here for more information.

ACT (American College Testing)

Peru State College is an approved testing site for the ACT, a college admissions test. Registration for the ACT may be done online through http://www.actstudent.org or through your local secondary school. For information about ACT testing at PSC, contact Marie Meland, Tutorial/ADA Services Coordinator, at 402-872-2440.

CAAP (College Assessment of Academic Proficiency)

Peru State College administers the CAAP during the freshmen and senior years as a means of assessing growth in the areas that comprise general studies. Analyzing students' academic development from the freshman year to the senior year enables the college to assess group trends and identify areas for improvement. PSC uses five CAAP modules as measures of progress: Writing, Mathematics, Reading, Critical Thinking, and Science. Click here for more information and the testing policy related to this important freshman COLL 101 and graduation requirement.

CLEP (College Level Examination Program)

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) provides students the option of earning college credit without enrolling in college courses. You can take one or more examinations which measure knowledge of subject areas taught in many colleges as freshman or sophomore level courses. The maximum allowed toward a PSC degree program through CLEP is sixteen (16) semester hours of credit. Contact Ursula Waln, Director of Student Assessment and Success Services, at 402-872-2341 to inquire about the CLEP examinations. See the PSC 2010-2011 CLEP brochure for current fee information and a list of the PSC courses for which CLEP exams may substitute. For general CLEP information, go to: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/higher-ed/placement/clep. To seek approval for application of courses toward a PSC degree program, fill out the CLEP Application and submit it to your dean.

PCAT (Pharmacy College Admission Test)

Peru State College offers a pre-pharmacy program and is an approved testing site for the PCAT, an exam that is often required for admission into pharmacy school. Registration for the PCAT can be done at http://tpc-etesting.com/pcat/. For more information, contact Ursula Waln, Director of Student Assessment and Success Services, at 402-872-2341.

PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test)

The Pre-Professional Skills Test (also called the PPST or Praxis I) is a group of three standardized tests in math, reading, and writing. All PSC Education majors must successfully pass all three sections of this test before they can be accepted into the Teacher Education Program at Peru State College.

A paper and pencil version of the PPST is offered at Peru. The computer-based version is offered by appointment at various locations around the state, but not in Peru. You may register for either the paper and pencil version or the computer-based version of the PPST online at www.ets.org/praxis. Sample questions and addition information about the test are available at the same website.

PSC’s library has a variety of printed and online aids to help you prepare, and the CATS has some preparation materials for check-out. For more information, contact Marie Meland, Tutorial/ADA Services Coordinator, at 402-872-2440.

TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)

Peru State College is an approved testing site for the TABE. Testing is arranged by appointment with Ursula Waln, Director of Student Assessment and Success Services, at 402-872-2341.
