Bobcats fall short at the buzzer

McPherson, KS – The Peru State Men’s Basketball team dropped another game on Saturday as they fell to the Tigers of Central Christian College, 66-63.


Peru clawed back from a nine point deficit at the half to out score the Tigers 36-30 in the second half. The Bobcats would have an opportunity to take a one point lead with nine seconds remaining but could not come up with a loose rebound. Then the Cats

had the opportunity to tie the game up at 66 all as Steven Burks went the length floor as his three point attempt was off the mark.


The Cats shot 47% from the floor on 24 of 51, just 10% from the arc on one of 10, and 63% from the line on 14 of 22. Peru held a 31-28 advantage in the rebound category and forced the Tigers to commit 18 turnovers. The also held the nation’s fourth leading score to 12 points below his average.


Peru had just two players in double figures as Steven Burks led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds. Marshall Kelly came off the bench to add 10 points and four boards. Reece Schwartz added nine points while teammates Matthew Drommond and Jovan Hitch each finish with eight points.


Peru returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to York College then home on February 13th as they host Bellevue University for the final home game of the season and senior night.
