Thompson and Newell receive NAIA-Independent POW honors

Peru, NE - The Peru State College Football team received some additional honors this week as QB Curtis Thompson and LB Ryan Newell received NAIA Independent Player of the Week honor for November 10th.
NAIA Independent Offensive Player of the Week
Curtis Thompson, QB, Junior, 6-2, 205 (Peru State College)
Hometown: Battle Creek, Nebraska
Junior QB Curtis Thompson threw a season-high 5 TD passes, completing 22-of-38 passes for a season-high 352 yards with 2 interceptions in Peru State (Neb.) College’s 42-34 loss to Benedictine (Kan.) College. Thompson also carried 4 times for 10 rushing yards. He threw for a pair of fourth-quarter TD passes to rally the Bobcats from a 42-19 deficit. Heading into the final game of the regular season, Thompson needs 71 yards to reach 2,000 passing yards for the season.
NAIA Independent Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Newell, LB, Senior, 6-0, 230 (Peru State College)
Hometown: Lincoln, Nebraska
Senior LB Ryan Newell registered a season-high 17 tackles along with a pass breakup in Peru State (Neb.) College’s 42-34 defeat at Benedictine (Kan.) College. For the second straight week, Newell established his personal season-best for tackles, following up a 16-tackle performance last week with this week’s 17 tackles. On the season, Newell has a team-high 90 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss.
