Bobcats explode in second quarter to secure victory over Warriors

Forest City, IA – The Peru State College Football team picked up its second win of the season today as they defeated the Warriors of Waldorf College 47-21.


The Bobcats started the game off scoring first as Peru’s Derek Philips picked up a Warrior fumble and returned it for the first score of the game. The Warriors would answer the Bobcats score but as the Bobcats used the second quarter as a launching pad. The Bobcats scored 26 points in the second quarter to lead going into half-time with a 33-7 margin. The Bobcats would add another pair of touchdowns before the conclusion of the game.


Peru State’s Nate Jeter led the Bobcats with 24 carries for 152 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Cory VanDeventer was second on the team in rushing with 17 carries for 31 yards and two touchdowns. Cody Wallinger finished the game with six catches for 80 yards. The Bobcats racked up 402 yards of total offense against the Warriors which included 227 yards in the first half. Peru secured the victory in the fourth quarter as they picked off Waldorf’s quarterback in a late comeback. The Warriors put the ball on the deck five times in the game with Peru picking up three of them.


The Bobcats move to 2-5 overall on the season and will return to the Oak Bowl next Saturday as they host Northwest Oklahoma for Peru State’s homecoming. The kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in Peru, NE.
