Bobcats rally falls short in loss to Ravens

Atchison, KS – The Peru State Bobcats traveled south to take on the Ravens of Benedictine College on Saturday. The Bobcats fell to the Ravens by the score of 36-13.


Bobcat FootballThe Ravens came out in the game and scored in the first and second quarters as they took a 15-0 lead going into the half. Benedictine found the end zone two more times in the third quarter to take a 29-0 with 6:55 remaining in the quarter. The Bobcats would not lie down, the Cats punched in their first score of the game after a kick return put them in excellent field position. It took just four plays and 1:25 to go 60 yards as John Noojin scored Peru’s first touchdown of the game. Max Kathol would capitalize on the PAT as the scored moved to 29-7.


The Bobcats would pick up one more touchdown in the third quarter as Nate Jeter scored from one yard out to cap off a six play, 21 yard drive. The extra point by Max Kathol was blocked by the Ravens as they held a 29-13 lead. Benedictine would find the end zone one more time to secure a 36-13 victory over the Bobcats.
On the day, Peru had 68 plays for 227 total yards of offense. In the air the Bobcats were 15 of 25 with two interceptions while racking up 101 yards on the ground on 43 carries. The tandem of John Noojin and Nate Jeter led the Bobcats with 11 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown for Noojin as Jeter finished with 32 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.


Quarterback Curtis Thompson was 15 of 24 today with two interceptions for 126 yards through the air. The leading receivers for the Bobcats were Cody Wallinger who caught four balls for 68 yards while Shane Mathis had one catch for 21. Justin Powell had 15 yards receiving on two catches while Quentin Edelman grabbed three balls for 10 yards.


The Bobcats defense picked off the Ravens twice as Alex Meredith picked off one pass and returned it 35 yards while Jeremy Weidner had one interception for 15 yards. Peru’s Nathan Redwing, J.J. Ozuna and Ryan Newell each picked up one solo sack today while assisting on other sacks. The Cats Dustin Sealey led the defense today with seven total tackles. Fred Whitted Jr. finished with six, Taylor Spears had four, Nathan Redwing tallied six, and Jeremy Weidner and Ryan Newell each had five.


The Bobcats move to 2-6 on the season and will return to action on November 8th as they host Grand View College at 1pm in the Oak Bowl on the campus of Peru State College.
