Bobcat Football falls in road loss to the #19th ranked Jimmies

 
Jamestown, ND) – The Peru State football team hit the road Saturday as they traveled north to take on the Jimmies of Jamestown College. The #19th ranked Jimmies handed the Bobcats their second loss of the season with a 47-20 victory.

Saturday’s game started out with Jamestown finding the scoreboard first as the Jimmies picked up a touchdown and field goal in the first quarter to take a 10-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Bobcats struck gold with 6:45 minutes remaining before the half when John Noojin took a hand off 27 yards to the house. The PAT kick by Max Kathol was blocked as the Bobcats pulled within four of the Jimmies.

Jamestown came back about three minutes later and booted home a 30 yard field goal to extend the lead 20-6. The Jimmies would score two more touchdowns before the half on 33 and 18 yard throwing strikes. They would miss one of the PAT’s to go into the half with a 26-6 lead.

In the third quarter, the Jimmies scored first at the 12:42 mark with an 11 yard TD pass but the Bobcats would return the favor with 9:19 remaining in the quarter. Quarterback Curtis Thompson connected with Cody Wallinger for a 54 yard touchdown pass to conclude a six play 67 yard drive. The Bobcats converted on the two point conversion as Thompson and Wallinger connected again to bring the score to 33-14. Jamestown again answered the Bobcat strike with two additional scoring drives of 67 yards in six plays and 61 yards on seven plays to extend their lead to 47-14.

The Bobcats lay down as they found the end zone again in the fourth quarter on a 10 play, 71 yard drive that was capped off by John Noojin scoring from 11 yards out. The PAT attempt by Curtis Thompson was no good as the final score was 47-20.

Overall stats for the saw the Bobcats finish with 263 total yards on offense. Peru had 138 yards on the ground on 36 carries with 125 coming through the air on 15 of 24 with one interception. The Bobcats tallied 17 first downs 67 yards on eight kickoff returns, three penalties for 35 yards and six punts for an average of 35.8 yards per kick.

On the ground, John Noojin led Peru with 74 total yards on 13 attempts with two TD’s. Justin Powell had eight carries for 39 yards and Nate Jeter finished with six carries for 17 yards. In the air, Curtis Thompson completed 15 passes on 22 attempts with one interception for 125 yards. Most of those completions were to Cody Wallinger, Mike Brown, and Tyson Ratliff. Wallinger caught four balls for 44 yards and a touchdown, Brown grabbed four catches for 36 yards while Tyson Ratliff had 14 yards on three catches.

On the defense side of the ball for Peru, Derek Derr led the team in tackles with seven unassisted and two assisted tackles. Dustin Sealey had five unassisted and two assisted, Taylor Spears tallied five unassisted and one assisted, and Alex Meredith recorded four unassisted, two assisted, and two sacks for 10 yards.

Peru will return to action on Saturday, September 13th at the Oak Bowl on the campus of Peru State College as they host the Vikings from Valley City State at 1:00 p.m.
