The ARC staff assists in making arrangements to take a variety of standardized tests and provides guidance for test preparation. The table below provides an overview of some of the tests for which services are coordinated through the ARC.
TEST DESCRIPTION
CPT (Computerized Placement Test)
The Computerized Accu-Placer, commonly referred to as the CPT (computerized placement test), is used to identify college level course placement appropriate to a student’s skills level in mathematics &/or English. Required for students with no ACT score or an ACT composite score below 17.
CLEP (College Level Examination Program)
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) provides students the option of earning college credit without enrolling in college courses. You can take one or more examinations which measure knowledge of subject areas taught in many colleges as freshman or sophomore level courses. Sixteen (16) semester hours of credit is the maximum allowed toward a degree program through CLEP. Contact Transition Services, CLEP Coordinator, to inquire about the CLEP examinations.
GED (General Educational Development)
Peru State College is an authorized General Educational Development (GED) Testing Center for southeast Nebraska.
The GED Tests provide a basis for conferring a high school equivalency diploma on adults who have not graduated from a traditional high school.
Testing is arranged by appointment only. A fee of $50.00 is charged for the test and the diploma.
Call 402-872-2341 for additional information. For Nebraska GED Sites and contact information go to the following website: http://www.nde.state.ne.us/ADED/home.htm.
MAT (Miller Analogies Test)
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed within 60 minutes. Those interested in taking the MAT are encouraged to obtain and review a copy of the Miller Analogies Test Candidate Information Booklet which contains complete information about the test. This booklet, which includes information specific to the test, is available through Transition Services, Career Center.
PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test)
The Pre-Professional Skills Test (also called the PPST or Praxis I) is a group of three standardized tests in math, reading, and writing. All Education majors must successfully pass all three sections of this test before they can be accepted into the teacher education program at Peru State College.
A paper and pencil version of the PPST is offered at Peru. The computer-based version is offered by appointment at various locations around the state, but not in Peru. You may register for either the paper and pencil version or the computer-based version of the PPST online at www.ets.org/praxis. Sample questions and addition information about the test are available at the same website.
PSC’s library has a variety of printed material to help you prepare, and the ARC staff will arrange review sessions for students. Please email arc@oakmail.peru.edu or call 402-872-2425 to inquire.
