Probationary Advising

Peru State College provides a structured advising program to help students on academic probation succeed in their courses and achieve good academic standing. A probation advisor in the ARC undertakes a professional assessment of the student’s academic situation and develops an individualized plan to target the specific advising and support needs of the student. To continue at Peru State College, students who are placed on academic probation must agree to the terms of the success plan—otherwise known as the Academic Probation Contract—which may include but are not limited to enrollment restrictions, study skills instruction, personal efficacy instruction, and advisor meetings. Contracts can be developed in office or via e-mail correspondence.

Students who are on academic probation and fail to meet the requirements of the Academic Probation Contract may be subject to administrative withdrawal. In the event that a student is academically suspended following a probationary term and elects to appeal the suspension, the probation advisor will provide information regarding the student’s compliance with the terms of the contract for consideration by the appeals committee.

 

Academic Probation

Students with a cumulative grade point average of 1.00-1.99 at the close of a semester, regardless of the number of attempted hours, are placed on academic probation. Probationary students must obtain a minimum 2.0 average for each successive semester of attendance (continued probation) until the required cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher has been achieved. Failure to do so will result in academic suspension, which is generally for two semesters.

21-Hour Rule

Students who have attempted 21 credit hours or fewer (excluding transfer record) and have a cumulative grade point average below 1.00 at the close of a semester are placed on an academic probation contract.
