Admission Requirements - International Students
 

Welcome to the admissions requirements information for international students! We are glad you are interested in learning what you will need to do to become a student at Peru State College! You must complete the entire admissions process in order to be fully admitted and receive your I-20 form required to receive your student visa. You will not be fully admitted until you satisfy all requirements to our satisfaction. Deadlines are July 1 for fall admission and November 1 for spring admission for international students (waivers of this date will be reviewed on an individual basis). We do not admit international students for the summer term.

 

You will need to complete the following steps in order to apply for admission and scholarships:

 

  1. Submit an International Student Application

     

    Complete all items on the application form. Materials from applicants are filed under the family name you indicate on your application. Use the same spelling of your name on all correspondences. Applicants must indicate the major course of study that they intend to complete. All international students must attend the main campus of Peru State College, located in Peru, Nebraska.

  2. Provide evidence of English language proficiency. Students must provide proof of English language proficiency in one of the following ways:

     

    1. Official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score report showing a minimum score of 550 on the paper based test with no section score lower than 56 points or 79 internet based test with no section score lower than 22 points. Scores must be within the past two years to be official.
    2. Official IELTS score report showing a minimum score of 6.5. Scores must be within the past two years to be official.
    3. Students who have graduated from an accredited high school in the U.S. may satisfy this requirement by providing an official high school transcript along with two letters of recommendation from high school faculty/administrators regarding proficiency in English language skills.
    4. Students transferring to Peru State College after one (or more) years of full-time enrollment at a college/ university in the United States may satisfy this requirement by providing official transcripts verifying a cumulative grade point average equivalent to 2.0 on a 4.0 scale along with two letters of recommendation from current college faculty regarding proficiency in English language skills. One letter should be from an English instructor where possible.
    5. Citizens of Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, or Wales are exempt from this requirement.


  3. Submit a Statement of Financial Support

     

    All International students applying for admission must complete a PSC Financial Certificate showing at least $14,500 (U.S. dollars) of funding for their first year of study. Students must also provide copies of bank statements showing $14,500 (U.S. dollars) from all sources providing funding for the student.

     

    International students are required to have health insurance. Health insurance costs are not included in the annual costs. Arrangements for securing health insurance should be made prior to your arrival on campus.


  4. Submit Official Educational Credentials/Transcripts

     

    These include:

    1. Secondary school records. Send a complete, year-by-year, official record of all schooling beyond the ninth year of education, including any certificates or diplomas earned. An English translation is required in addition to the originals and must be completed by a credible transcript translation organization.
    2. College or university records (if applicable). Send a complete, year-by-year, official record of academic performance for all post-secondary schooling including any certificates or diplomas earned. An English translation is required in addition to the originals and must be completed by a credible transcript translation organization.

     

    Note that for admission to PSC, average marks during schooling and on final examinations must be a minimum 2.0 grade point average in the PSC grading system. In the PSC grading system, A is 4.0, B is 3.0, C is 2.0, D is 1.0, and F is 0.0. International students may need to send their transcripts to an international credentials evaluation service for evaluation. Students will be notified by the Office of Admissions if this is necessary and will be sent a list of agencies that perform this service. The cost will depend upon the type and complexity of the evaluation and is the responsibility of the student.

     

  5. Submit Transfer Eligibility Form

     

    (Transfer Students Only)

    As a transfer student from an U.S. College or University, you are required to complete a Transfer Eligibility Form clarifying your status at your current institution. This form must be fully completed as part of your admission file. In order for your SEVIS record to be transferred to Peru State College, this form must be completed. Peru State College can not issue an I-20 form to a transfer student unless your previous College or University transfers your record to our school in the SEVIS system.


  6. Submit International Student Medical Records Form

     

    A Medical Records Form must be submitted. Proof of immunization (two separate doses of immunizations for measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, and a recent skin test for tuberculosis within the last year) must be provided in the form of a photocopy of your immunization records. Each of these must be identified in English on the record. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL IMMUNIZATION RECORDS as they will not be returned.


  7. Submit official SAT or ACT Scores

     

    (Scholarship Purposes Only - Not Required)

    SAT or ACT scores are NOT REQUIRED for international admissions; however, if applying for scholarships, scores from one of these tests is required to be considered for all institutional scholarships. International students are not eligible for U.S. federal student aid.


  8. Submit Residence Life Application
