Competitive Academic Scholarships

Competitive scholarships are subject to availability and are tuition waiver scholarships unless noted otherwise. Competitive scholarships cannot be combined and are available to freshmen who enroll for the fall semester immediately completing high school. Eligible candidates must be degree-seeking and enroll in 12 or more credit hours each semester.

Governor’s Opportunity Award

Cooperating Schools Scholarship
Award Amount: Half on-campus tuition waiver renewable for four years
Deadline: March 1
Eligibility:
  1. Eligible Schools for 2017-2018
  2. Recommendation by your High School Counselor. Recommendation Form: Online Form/Submission | Hard Copy/Paper Version
  3. Rank in the top half of your graduating class
  4. Service to your high school and leadership qualities

Clements Band Scholarship Competition
Award Amount: $2,000 over a two year period ($500/semester). A second place award of $500 will also be given on a one-time basis.

Eligibility:
  1. Any high school graduate (age 17 through 24 years of age) who meets Peru State College admissions requirements and has a high school cumulative gpa of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (4.0 being the highest) or its equivalent is eligible to apply.
  2. The eligible applicant must have participated in music during high school.
  3. Submission of an Online Application or a Hard Copy Form
  4. Each applicant must participate in a competitive audition Tuesday March 14, 2017 at 7pm.

  2. Initial preference to Otoe county students, Secondary preference to Cass, rural Lancaster, Johnson, or Nemaha county students.
  3. Must demonstrate financial need.
  4. Must enroll in courses on the Peru State College campus.

Athletic Scholarships
Award Amount: Coach’s Discretion
Description: Peru State College athletic teams offer scholarships in the form of tuition and room waivers to program participants for each of the eight athletic teams as well as cheerleading. Interested student athletes should contact the head coach for the sport of interest at 402-872-2350 or athletics@peru.edu.
Art Scholarships
Award Amount: Varies
Description: Scholarships in the form of tuition waivers are available for students who major in art.  Demonstrated ability and department needs determine award recipients and amounts. A portfolio is required.  For additional information, contact the Art Department at 402-872-2271 or btrail@peru.edu.
Music Scholarships
Award Amount: Varies
Description: Music participation scholarships in the form of tuition waivers are available to participants in instrumental and vocal music organizations. An audition is required.  Award amounts are determined by demonstrated ability, musicianship and department needs. Music participation scholarships are available to all college students. Military Service Scholarship

  1. Active, Reserve, National Guard or ROTC member of the United States military.

Outside Scholarship Opportunities

Susan T. Buffet Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: February 1
Details: The Susan T. Buffett Foundation provides scholarships that can be used to cover expenses related to attending college (e.g. tuition and fees, housing, books). The amount of the scholarship varies by institution but is typically equal to the average cost of tuition and fees for a full-time student (15 credits) at that institution. For example, the maximum 2016-2017 scholarship amount is $3,900 per semester at the Nebraska State Colleges. Incoming freshmen planning to start at Peru State during the 2017-18 academic year can apply for this scholarship between November 1, 2016 and February 1, 2017.
