This site is an archive of FWK textbooks, collected in November, 2012, before FWK dropped their free access in Jan 2013. All of these books were gathered from the publicly accessible, Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA licensed content.

The Community College Open Textbooks Collaborative is funded by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. This collection of sixteen educational non-profit and for-profit organizations, affiliated with more than 200 colleges, is focused on driving awareness and adoptions of open textbooks to more than 2000 community and other two-year colleges. This includes providing training for instructors adopting open resources, peer reviews of open textbooks, and mentoring online professional networks that support for authors opening their resources, and other services.

MyOpenMath

MyOpenMath runs on the free, open source, IMathAS platform, providing free hosted use of this platform in support of free, open textbooks. The intent is to provide classroom use of the platform, without any added cost to students, for schools unable to host their own install of the IMathAS platform, and to provide students self-study opportunities.

TED

Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER)

The Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) is a joint effort by the Open Courseware Consortium, OER Center for California, League for Innovation in the Community Colleges, and many community colleges and university partners to develop and use open educational resources,  open textbooks, and open courseware to expand access to higher education and improve teaching and learning.

HippoCampus

HippoCampus is a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE). The goal of HippoCampus is to provide high-quality, multimedia content on general education subjects to high school and college students free of charge.

 

MERLOT

MERLOT is a free and open online community of resources designed primarily for faculty, staff and students of higher education from around the world to share their learning materials and pedagogy.

 

MIT OpenCourseWare

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.

 

The National Repository of Online Courses (NROC)

The National Repository of Online Courses (NROC) is a growing library of high-quality online course content for students and faculty in higher education, high school and Advanced Placement.

 

OER Commons

OER Commons, publicly launched in February 2007, to provide support for and build a knowledge base around the use and reuse of open educational resources (OER). As a network for teaching and learning materials, the web site offers engagement with resources in the form of social bookmarking, tagging, rating, and reviewing.

 

Open Course Library

The Open Course Library is a collection of expertly developed educational materials – including textbooks, syllabi, course activities, readings, and assessments – in 81 high-enrollment college courses. 42 courses have been completed so far, providing faculty with a high-quality, affordable option that will cost students no more than $30 for textbooks.

 

OpenCourseWare Consortium

The OpenCourseWare Consortium is a worldwide community of hundreds of higher education institutions and associated organizations committed to advancing OpenCourseWare and its impact on global education.

 

Peer 2 Peer University

Peer 2 Peer University (we mostly just say P2PU) is a grassroots open education project that organizes learning outside of institutional walls and gives learners recognition for their achievements. P2PU creates a model for lifelong learning alongside traditional formal higher education. Leveraging the internet and educational materials openly available online, P2PU enables high-quality low-cost education opportunities.

Saylor.org

Since 2008, the Foundation's free education initiative (www.saylor.org) has focused on exploring the promise of the Internet to drive the cost of education to zero and expand access to quality open educational resources (OER). Toward this end, we have built over 270 free, self-paced, online courses, with many more on the way.

Connexions Consortium

The Connexions Consortium is a group of organizations and individuals, including the world's foremost leaders in education, who work together to advance open source educational technology and open access educational content.

 

Lumen

The Lumen team brings your institution deep expertise in the adoption and effective use of open educational resources (OER), design of highly effective online and technology-enhanced instruction, analysis of learning with a focus toward improving results, community collaboration practices, and innovation in technology-enhanced teaching and learning.

 

Project Kaleidoscope

Project Kaleidoscope is implementing a set of fully open general education courses across eight colleges serving predominantly at-risk students. The project will dramatically reduce textbook costs and allow collaborative improvement of course design to improve student success.

 

The Public Knowledge Project

The Public Knowledge Project is dedicated to improving the scholarly and public quality of research. It operates through a partnership among Simon Fraser University, the School of Education at Stanford University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Pittsburgh, the Ontario Council of University Librariesand the California Digital Library.
