DEGREE: Master of Science in Education. - 36 Hours

Accreditation includes:

  • Nebraska Department of Education
  • NCATE
  • Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

Degree Requirements:

  • Grades
    The student shall maintain a GPA of no less than 3.0 and a grade of "C" or higher in all courses on the Program of Study. A maximum of 6 hours of "C" will be accepted on the approved Program of Study.

Policies:

  • Filing for Graduation
    The student must file a formal application for graduation with the following deadlines: October 1 for May and August; March 1 for December. (A $40.00 Fee must accompany the Application for Graduation.)
     
  • Time Limitation
    All requirements for the Master's Degree must be met within a period of seven years from the date the student registers for the first graduate course which is to apply toward his/her degree.
     
  • Transfer of Hours
    Graduate credits earned at another accredited institution may be applied toward the Master's Degree provided: (A) the hours are of grade "B" or above; (B) the hours would count toward a graduate degree program at the school where earned; and (C) they have been approved by the Dean of Graduate Programs. Credits taken prior to admission to the graduate program at Peru State College must fall within the 7-year time frame allowed for program completion. Transfer credits can only be applied toward elective credits within the program. A maximum of six transfer hours may be applied to the Program of Study. Students must obtain the required signatures for approval of transfer credits to be applied to a program of study.
     
  • Residency
    A residency period is not required for the Master's Degree. However, a minimum of 27 hours of graduate course work taken through Peru State College must be included in the student's program of study.
     
  • Student Class Loads
    The maximum load for full-time resident graduate students during the two summer sessions is twelve semester hours. A maximum of six semester hours may be taken during one session. Graduate students who have been admitted to candidacy may petition the Director of Graduate Programs to carry an overload. In no case may a student enroll in more than 15 hours during the Summer term.
     
  • Courses for Graduate Students Only
    At least 15 of the 36 semester hours required for the advanced degree must be taken in classes in which only graduate students may enroll.
     
  • Incomplete Grade Policy
    To designate a student's work in a course as Incomplete at
    the end of a term, instructors will use the Incomplete grade (I). Students may receive this grade, however, only when serious illness, hardship, death in the immediate family, or military service during the semester in which they are registered
    prevents them from completing course requirements. In addition, to receive an Incomplete, a student must have completed a majority of the course's major requirements.

APPLICATION OF THEORY/ADVANCED ELECTIVE COURSES

h. Students with minimal professional experience in the emphasis area may complete an additional six hours of internship, thesis, and/or practical project credit. Those with significant experience may elect to complete two additional courses in advanced topic areas. 6 hours
