Peru State College’s Charter Commemoration: Nebraska’s Higher Education Beginnings: June 20, 2017

This Sesquicentennial Charter Event Celebration will mark the charter date of June 20, 1867, of Nebraska’s first institution of higher education by the Nebraska Legislature. The historic event will include daytime activities for children ages 5 years – 8th grade, Nebraska artists program and historical presentations for all ages.  The evening reception and banquet will kick off with musical entertainment and an introduction of Nebraska City’s Chautauqua WWI reenactors.

All day-time activities are free and open to the public. Registration closes for daytime activities on June 9.

The evening reception and banquet is $35 per person. Registration for the dinner closes June 9.

11:30 a.m. Welcome Center Opens for Daytime Activities
Tent outside Schoolhouse, Park Ave. and 5th Ave.
Noon Pioneer Day at the Normal School – Children’s Activities for grades K-8 with Lunch Included

Noon-5 p.m. Charter Day Speaker Series
Presentations start on the hour; concluding at 5 p.m.
Topics and presenters include prohibition, Nebraska, Peru State College and Dan Sullivan, author of the PSC 150 book.

1-4 p.m. Art Program Focused on Nebraska Artists for middle school students to adults
5-6:45 p.m. Reception on Lawn of TJ Majors

5:45 p.m. Peru State College Charter Presentation
